Mammoth Biosciences
Mammoth Biosciences is an American biotechnology company, founded in 2017 in Brisbane, California, co-founder – Jennifer Doudna, co-creator of the CRISPR method. It makes compact CRISPR enzymes, three times smaller than Cas9: the small size allows them to be delivered where conventional systems do not fit. The enzymes have been licensed by Regeneron, Vertex, and Bayer. Regeneron paid $100 million upon signing and combines Mammoth's enzymes with its AAV vectors, which use antibodies to find tissues outside the liver; Mammoth can co-finance most programs and share profits instead of milestone payments. Vertex paid $41 million upfront in 2021 and promised up to $650 million in milestone payments for two diseases, while Bayer in 2022 paid $40 million for access across five indications. The company's own drug is MB-111. A total of $358 million has been raised.
