About Pacific Fusion
Developing pulsed inertial fusion using impedance-matched Marx generators — a path to a demonstration device cheaper than laser- or magnet-based approaches.
Pacific Fusion is an American fusion company, founded in summer 2023 by five co-founders led by Eric Lander, headquartered in Fremont. It is building a device where fuel is compressed by ultra-short electrical pulses from 156 identical, shipping-container-sized modules. There are no lasers or superconducting magnets; the modules are built from steel, aluminum, and capacitors, making them suitable for serial production — assembly takes place in San Leandro and later in Los Lunas. In August 2026, construction began in Albuquerque on a demonstration device that, by 2030, is meant to be the first to output more fusion energy than is stored in the machine. The company has raised more than $1 billion in a Series A led by General Catalyst, disbursed in tranches after each completed technical milestone.
