About Radiant Nuclear
Develops a portable 1 MW Kaleidos microreactor in a single shipping container using TRISO fuel. Founder Doug Bernauer worked at SpaceX for 12 years. Customers include the Air Force, the U.S. Army, and Equinix. The prototype reactor is undergoing testing at the Idaho National Laboratory.
Radiant Nuclear is an American developer of portable nuclear microreactors, founded in 2020 in El Segundo. The Kaleidos reactor fits into a shipping container and replaces diesel generators at military bases, remote settlements, and data centers, where fuel has to be constantly transported. The U.S. Army signed an agreement worth up to $750 million for 15 reactors — the largest in the Janus program, with the first three, totaling approximately 3 MW, to be installed at Fort Benning. The Air Force, together with DIU, expects the first Kaleidos at Buckley Space Force Base in Colorado by 2028, and data center operator Equinix pre-ordered 20 units. Series D, led by Draper Associates and Boost VC, took place at a valuation of over $1.8 billion, with a total of approximately $575 million raised.
