About Base Power

Designs, installs, and maintains large home batteries, pooling them into a virtual power plant to sell grid services and capacity. Started in Texas.

Base Power is an American energy company founded in 2023 in Austin. It installs large batteries in private homes, retains ownership of them, and sells the customer electricity cheaper than the standard rate, while pooling thousands of batteries into a virtual power plant that stores cheap energy and feeds it back to the grid when prices rise. Starting in Texas, the company expanded into Illinois in June 2026; fleet capacity passed 500 MWh, and it has signed more than 200 MW of contracts with utilities and cooperatives. Installations run at a pace of about 100 batteries a day, and customer churn is near zero. In August 2026 the company raised $1B in a Series D round at a $13B valuation — triple the valuation from ten months earlier; total funding raised exceeds $2.2B.
