About Castelion
Designs and is scaling serial production of low-cost, long-range hypersonic weapons, including the Blackbeard system, for the US armed forces. Founded by SpaceX engineers.
Castelion is an American developer of low-cost hypersonic weapons, founded in 2022 by SpaceX alumni, headquartered in Torrance, California. The Blackbeard missile flies at more than five times the speed of sound, maneuvers in flight, and is designed for serial production in the thousands: the company manufactures its own engines and electronics, keeping unit cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Over the past year and a half it has received more than $500 million in military contracts; in May 2026 it signed an agreement with the Department of Defense for production of at least 500 missiles per year, and in September the US Navy issued its first production order. A dedicated factory, Project Ranger, is under construction on 1,000 acres in Rio Rancho with investment exceeding $220 million. In August 2026 the company raised an $800 million Series C in equity at a $13 billion valuation, bringing total funding to $1.23 billion.
