About Waabi

Builds the Waabi Driver autonomous driving stack on generative AI for long-haul trucking, with a closed-loop neural simulator for safe deployment. Expanding into robotaxis through a partnership with Uber.

Waabi is a Canadian developer of self-driving systems for long-haul trucks, founded in 2021 by Raquel Urtasun, who previously led self-driving research at Uber, and headquartered in Toronto. It builds Waabi Driver and trains it in its own neural simulator, Waabi World, instead of millions of miles of road testing, meaning the company needs fewer test vehicles per development step. Trucks with a safety driver already haul commercial freight between Dallas and Houston, Waabi is bringing a production driverless version to market with Volvo, and the switch from the Peterbilt 579 to the Volvo VNL happened without retraining. Uber will dedicate at least 25,000 vehicles to the system. In January 2026 the company raised $750 million — the largest round in Canadian tech history — bringing total funding to $1.03 billion across three rounds.
