About The Boring Company
Designs and manufactures the Prufrock series of tunnel boring machines and builds underground transit tunnels, including the Vegas Loop. Spun off from SpaceX in 2018.
The Boring Company is a US infrastructure company founded in January 2017 within SpaceX, headquartered in Bastrop. It designs and builds the Prufrock tunnel boring machines and uses them to bore narrow tunnels for the underground Loop transit system, where Tesla electric vehicles carry passengers nonstop. The machine launches straight from a truck, with no pit or crane needed, and is operated remotely from a center in Bastrop. The operating system in Las Vegas has already carried more than 4 million passengers; construction is underway in Nashville and Dubai, and a tunnel at Tesla's Texas factory cut the transit time for finished Cybertrucks from 12 minutes to one. In September 2026, a $3 billion Series D led by the UAE valued the company at $23 billion, bringing total funding raised to about $3.9 billion.
