Amogy
Amogy is an American company building ammonia-powered energy systems, founded in 2020 in New York by four MIT PhD graduates. Its module cracks delivered ammonia into hydrogen and generates electricity on site in 1 MW blocks. The ammonia is not burned: the hydrogen goes straight into a fuel cell, so there is neither CO₂ nor nitrogen oxides. Ammonia is cheaper to transport than hydrogen because it liquefies at −33 °C versus −253 °C. In three years its demonstrations grew from 5 kW on a drone to 1 MW on the NH3 Kraken tugboat, which sailed the Hudson. Samsung Heavy Industries is preparing a dedicated workshop in Korea for serial assembly, and Amun Energy, a joint company with GS E&C, ordered systems for a 40 MW power plant in Pohang by 2029. Valuation is $700 million, and it has raised more than $330 million in total.
Key highlights
Where Amogy stands today across technology, financials and market traction.
GS E&C: an investment, then a 40 MW plant.
In November 2025 GS E&C invested $15 million in Amogy, and in April 2026 the two created a joint company, Amun Energy. It ordered systems for a plant in Pohang with 1 MW at launch and 40 MW by 2029, and the power will be bought by factories in an industrial park.
Samsung Heavy: a workshop for serial assembly.
The shipbuilder first became a shareholder, and in November 2025 it signed a multiyear agreement and is preparing a dedicated workshop in Korea for assembling and testing the systems. The first modules off the line will go to Pohang.
Singapore: hydrogen at the customer's site.
The A*STAR agency and the Economic Development Board invited Amogy to a test site on Jurong Island. From 2027 the unit will produce up to 1 tonne of hydrogen a day, and the company will open its first research center outside the U.S. there.
