About Nuro
Develops the Nuro Driver Level-4 autonomous driving system and licenses it to automakers, ride-hailing operators, and fleet operators. Started with its own driverless delivery vehicles, shifted to a platform model in 2024.
Nuro is an American developer of autonomous driving systems, founded in 2016 by alumni of Google's self-driving program, headquartered in Mountain View. It builds Nuro Driver, a Level 4 autonomy system where the vehicle drives itself with no driver within a defined operating zone. Since 2024 the company no longer builds its own fleet, instead licensing the system to automakers and ride-hailing services: it's already been installed on 9 models, and the Lucid Gravity integration took about seven weeks. Its lead customer is Uber, which together with Lucid is preparing a robotaxi service in the San Francisco Bay Area; the program's overall plan calls for at least 35,000 vehicles, with Houston next in mid-2027. The latest round, a Series E, closed at a $6B valuation; total funding raised is $2.3B.
