About K2 Space
K2 Space was founded in 2022 by brothers Karan and Neel Kunjur. Neel developed onboard electronics for Dragon spacecraft at SpaceX and led flights, while Karan worked for ten years at BCG and then brought an AI startup to sale for a nine-figure sum. The company makes satellite platforms.
K2 Space is an American manufacturer of large satellite platforms, founded in 2022 in Torrance. Its spacecraft are ten times more powerful than conventional satellites of their class and are designed for communications and defense. SES selected K2 for its meoSphere network in medium Earth orbit: the first phase of 28 platforms, each 20 kW, is expected to be operational by 2030, and if demand increases, the network will grow to almost 100 spacecraft. The U.S. Space Force in April 2026 selected K2 satellites for testing inter-satellite laser communication, which is needed for a missile tracking system, and in July extended the contract until 2028. Anduril took the platforms for demonstrating space interceptors for the Golden Dome program, while Viasat used them for its jam-resistant PTS-G network. Series D in July 2026 brought in $500 million at a valuation of $6.8 billion, with a total of approximately $926 million raised.
