About Ayar Labs
Develops in-package optical I/O: the TeraPHY optical engine and SuperNova light source replace copper interconnects with light, removing bandwidth and power constraints in AI training and inference infrastructure.
Ayar Labs is a developer of silicon photonics for communication between AI processors, founded in 2015 based on research from MIT and Berkeley, headquartered in San Jose, with about 260 employees. TeraPHY optical chiplets are placed in the same package as a GPU and transmit data using light instead of copper wires, allowing thousands of AI accelerators to be linked into a single system with lower power consumption; each such system requires an external SuperNova light source. Strategic investors include NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, and MediaTek. In March 2026, a Series E round closed at a $3.75B valuation; in September the round was expanded to $650M, bringing total funding to over $1B. The company currently ships engineering samples, with volume production to begin after manufacturing qualification by the end of 2027.
