How to complete investor accreditation

Accreditation is digital and takes about five minutes. Why it is required, which evidence counts, and the three reasons applications come back.

The short answer

Accreditation is done in the app in about five minutes and does not require an office visit. You choose the basis on which you qualify — income, net worth or professional licence — upload one supporting document, and sign a declaration electronically. It is a regulatory requirement on the offering rather than a platform rule: in the United States, participation in a private placement is restricted to accredited investors, and the same logic applies under the equivalent regimes elsewhere.

The restriction sits on the offering, not on the platform

A private company raising capital without registering the offering with a regulator may only sell to a defined class of investor. In the United States that class is the accredited investor, defined in Rule 501 of Regulation D; other jurisdictions run their own tests under names like professional, qualified or sophisticated investor. No platform can waive it, and a platform that offered to would be the warning sign. Which test applies to you depends on where you are resident, not on your citizenship. Who can invest through Axevil sets out the US thresholds and the equivalents.

What counts as proof

You qualify on one basis, and you evidence that one basis. The three routes the US rules recognise, and the documents that ordinarily support them: Income Tax returns or equivalent filings for the last two years, showing income above the threshold in each of them and a reasonable expectation of the same this year. Net worth Statements evidencing assets and liabilities — the primary residence is excluded from the calculation — usually paired with a credit report.

Four steps in the app

Open the Accreditation section in the app. Choose the basis you qualify on: income, assets, or professional status. Upload the supporting document. A full-page scan or photograph, all four corners visible, text legible. Sign the declaration electronically. Your status is then reviewed, and the app notifies you when it changes — the deal list opens at that point.

Three reasons an application is returned

The document is out of date. Evidence has to be recent enough to say something about your position now, not two years ago. The name does not match. The name on the evidence and the name on the profile have to be the same person, spelled the same way — married names and transliterations are the usual culprits. The scan is not legible. A cropped corner or a photograph taken at an angle is rejected by the reviewer, not by a machine being difficult. Nothing about a returned application is permanent. Re-upload the corrected document and the review starts again.
