Runway builds its own models for generating and editing video and, since July 2026, sells them through a single developer interface alongside third-party models. The Runway Dev platform opened on July 8, 2026, and a model router was added to it on July 23. The Gen-4.5 model beat Google's and OpenAI's in industry benchmarks, and on June 11, 2026 Lionsgate took a stake in the company.
